We want a practical vegetable garden on our suburban homestead, so this is our Baker Creek seed order 2025!

Baker Creek Seed Order from 2024

Here is last year’s order:

  • Cantare Green Beans
  • Lemon Bee Balm
  • Kyoto Red Carrot
  • New Kuroda Carrot
  • Crimson Clover
  • Cosmic Yellow Cosmos
  • Suyo Long Cucumber
  • Pink Shades Paper Dasies
  • Crisp Mint Lettuce
  • Sweet Passion Melon
  • Marvelous Mix Mint
  • Texas Early Grano Onions
  • Sugar Daddy Snap Pea
  • Craig’s Grande Jalapeno
  • Ozark Giant Sweet Peppers
  • Burpee’s Butterbush Butternut Squash
  • German Pink Tomato
  • Alice’s Dream Tomato
  • Leelanau Sweetglo Watermelon
  • Pink Bumble Bee Tomato
  • Flowerburst Fruitbowl Yarrow

We didn’t end up growing all of those varieties last year, particularly the flowers, so some of those seed packets are completely unopened and will hopefully germinate well a second year past purchase. The rest of them we only used half or fewer of the seeds since we had such a small garden.

But this year we will be more than doubling our garden as well as using a small greenhouse for the first time, so we are excited for the possibilities that are opened up to us. Here’s what we ordered this year to add to last year’s selection:

  • Blue Lake Bush Beans
  • Pacific Beauty Mix Calendula
  • St. Valery Carrots
  • Plumosa Gloriosa Mix Celosia
  • Slo-Bolt Cilantro
  • Flora Mix Dianthus
  • Paradiso Super-Duper Echinacea
  • Blue Bird Forget-Me-Nots
  • Birdhouse Gourd
  • Gypsy Sunshine Marigolds
  • Tip Top Pink Blush Nasturtiums
  • Yellow Sweet PSanish Onions
  • Trumpets Mix Pansy Violas
  • Sugar Rush Peach Hot Peppers
  • Lesya Sweet Peppers
  • Twinkles Dwardf Mix Phlox
  • Rosy Rosemary
  • Butternut-Waltham Squash
  • Creeping Thyme
  • Bonny Best Tomato
  • Hungarian Heart Tomato
  • Parker’s Variety Yarrow

As you can see, we bought new varieties of the same things: beans, tomatoes, herbs. And we bought MANY more varieties of flowers. Partially this is because we desperately need more pollinators in our garden, and partly because my oldest daughter is quite taken with the notion of flower gardening. My sister, her aunt, owns a cut flower business in Coeur d’Alene Idaho, and Frances aspires to be just like her. So, we’re going to encourage it.

The Goals

I also hope to do a lot more with flowers in our front yard for landscaping and beautification purposes, so no complaints from me.

We will also still be sourcing starts for sweet potatoes and red potatoes, as well as onion starts if mine do not do well. I also completely neglected to plant garlic in the fall but I might plant some here in the early spring after the ground begins to thaw so that we can have some late summer garlic. I’m not sure if that will work but I’ve been told by locals that it does relatively well!

In our vegetable gardens our main goal is to be able to eat plentifully through the summer and also have some of our favorite things to preserve for the fall and winter.

Mostly I want tomatoes for eating fresh, as well as canning sauces and salsas, and I want to try making sundried tomatoes this year.

I want potatoes and sweet potatoes and butternut squash and carrots and onions to store up or freeze.
I want cucumbers and melons and snap peas for summer snacking.
I want herbs and flowers coming out our ears for fresh cooking and flower arrangements, as well as for preserving.

With this Baker Creek seed order I think we will be in good shape to achieve all our 2025 garden dreams!
